The National Weather Service is investigating whether a tornado touched down in New Jersey but has not yet been able to confirm it.

Meteorologist Mike Layer said significantly strong winds were reported from Berkeley Heights to Summit this morning and weakened when they reached Essex County.

A tornado just might have touched down on nearby Snyder Avenue. New Jersey state climatologist David Robinson said the National Weather Service will be sending a team to western Union County this afternoon to determine if the damage was caused by a tornado.
